A donkey herd is made up of the Herdsires, Jennets and Geldings.
We have listed members of our herd below. The small images link to a
corresponding large image on a separate page.
We will also have pictures of our babies as they are born so be
sure to check back later!

Herdsires

The Elms Thunder Boom:We have a new addition to our breeding program, “The Elms Thunder Boom”. Boomer is gorgeous black, showing no cross and NLP. He stands 31 ½”. Thunder Booms’ bloodlines will give diversity to our established breeding program. We are excited about his first foals to arrive in spring of 2009 from specially selected jennets from within our established group. Thunder Boom is 5 generation MDR registered.
Circle C Bear Essential: Bear was purchased
to add strength to our breeding program. He stands 32", is dark brown and has a
very gentle disposition. Circle C Bear Essential was named Grand
Champion at the World Miniature Donkey Show, Calgary Alberta. He
has outstanding conformation and bone structure. Bear has added the expected qualities of a Champion to formulate our breeding agenda.
Circle C Bravado: our senior
herd-sire for many years was retired in 2002. At eleven years of age, as a
gelding, he concluded his show-ring pursuit by winning Reserve Grand
Champion Performance Donkey at the World Miniature Donkey Show
at the Calgary Stampede. Bravado had a long history of champions at
both halter and performance. He has been Champion and Reserve Champion
Performance Donkey at a number of shows. Bravado passed his "desire to
perform" attitude on to his foals.
Previous Herdsires
Prairie Brae Country Classic: Classy shared the breeding pursuits with Circle C Bear Essential from 2004 until 2008. He was a 33” bright sorrel. The pedigree on his sire goes back to Valentino 49, and on his dam side to Circle C Black Russian. We carry his genetics in our base herd of jennets.
Strawberry Sting: Sting, a 34"
Windchester son, was our "Subordinate" Herdsire from 1996 to 2001. We carry his
bloodlines in our herd as his beautiful chestnut genetics were predominant in
his foals. Stinger had an especially complacent personality and passed that
trait on to his babies.
Jennets
Over sixteen years we have chosen a diverse group of
jennets. Each one has been chosen because of an attribute we felt would improve
our breeding program. The most imperative quality to look for when considering
the purchase of a miniature donkey is " as close to perfect conformation" as
your finances will allow.

Because donkey lovers have a varied idea of what
the "perfect miniature donkey" should look like, we do have jennets who range
in colour from the original grey dun, chocolate, the sorrels and a couple of
spotted ones as well.

Foals
2008 proved to be an interesting year for foaling. It is gratifying to observe the breeding program we have established over the years. It is producing foals we can be proud to offer for sale in the future. We took our turn at having majority male foals this year, most of which will become geldings in the spring of 2009 and sold as such. There are a couple nice jack prospects in the group. |

Geldings
Geldings are the entertaining side of the
miniature donkey industry. Only the "very best" of the best jack foals should
be kept for breeding purposes. So what do responsible breeders do with the
remaining jack foals? Geld them. Geldings make
adorable pets for children, grandchildren, etc. Miniature donkeys are very
smart and retain any performance training with ease. They can easily be taught
to do obstacle trail courses at an early age. At the age of three they can be
trained to drive, or master coon or in-hand jumping. Miniature Donkey Breeders
will have quality geldings for sale.
We have geldings available at various stages of growth and
training. Check the Donkeys for Sale for updates.
Prairie Brae Klinger was the 2004 Grand
Champion Gelding at the Miniature Donkey Extravaganza. At the NMDA World
Show in Calgary he was judged Reserve Champion Gelding. In 2005 Klinger won the Amateur Performance Championship at the Miniature Donkey Extravaganza.
Klinger now makes his home with a new Family which includes five children, who are enthusiastic about his attributes in and out of the show ring.
